This is a surprise gift for all the people that have subscribed me!

Still don't know the last ones but i hope you like the gift :)!

---

This is an advanced layer tutorial. It will teach you how to use photoshop layers, the advanced way. If you are still basic inside photoshop i suggest you take some basic tutorials first.

excuse for the confusing guide, but deviantart didn't let me load images bigger than 10080x10080 pixels so i needed to
crop it up a bit.

---

!For those of you who can't read the tutorial because of to small texts!

Download the image, DeviantArt crops the full-size which is highly disturbing

---

I hope it helps!
And don't hesitate to send the results after you tried it!

Greetings,

Z

(my English isn't that great so if you see spelling mistakes that are really bad, tell me)

To start off: this is a really eyecatching tutorial and my expectations were high even before I began to read. At first glance your layout looks pretty simple, but there are small details such as drop shadows on images, gradients on text, and little hand-drawn (?) numbers/arrows that shows you’ve put time and thought into it.

As it’s such a huge tutorial (goodness, how much time did you use?), I’m glad that you included a short intro to it. I also like tutorials with a personal, conversational tone in as opposed to the ”1. Do this. 2. Do this. 3. Etc” – it makes it easier and much more enjoyable to read.

”Advanced” tutorials sometimes have the drawback that they use difficult language, or that they try to explain a complicated issue too briefly. I like how you go into detail: your explanations are clear and concise, and the screenshots adds to the steps and make it easy to understand. Another great thing with this tutorial is the content. I’ve used Photoshop for years and I learned alot of new things from this; and even the parts I knew, I enjoyed reading

It’s always great when a good artist shares his methods of doing things. I’m not a digital painter, but I’m sure that those who are (or want to be) will benefit hugely from this. I’d have loved to see a walkthrough from you as well, where you explain the process on one piece from sketch to finished artwork.

The large images allows you to really appreciate the details; it’s a nice change from tutorials where you have to squint to see the differences from one image to another. However, I feel you could still shrink the whole thing to perhaps 80% (or something) since the font seems a bit too big (but not by much).

My suggestions to improvements are purely technical, and you can take them or leave them – your tutorial is awesome as it is. I’m not trying to be nitpicky, but I gotta point out something or it wouldn’t be a proper critique

My only problem with this tutorial is the format. In all honesty... it’s ridiculous! 3000 px width is not user-friendly at all – especially not if you sit on a laptop. The height doesn’t matter much since it’s pretty natural to scroll downwards, but the width? I think, at the very least, you could remove one of the three columns and rearrange the content to fit the new format. If dA’s size restrictions are a problem, I think I’d have preferred it if you split the whole thing up in 2 or 3 parts instead of having everything on one large image.

It would make it much easier to read without having to print out the whole thing.

There are some minor grammar faults/typos scattered in the tut. I get that English is not your first language, so typos are pretty much inevitable – I tend to have heaps of them myself – so just wanted to point out some that I found in the 1st part/column. Sometimes it helps to have another person read through, or put it aside and read through it yourself a couple of days later

This tutorial, as the title says already, will learn you about layers...
This tutorial will not learn you how to be a digital painter...
* replace learn with teach

I used a gray scale painting, but his image can be anything
* replace his with this or the

As you can see in the layer pannel
*panel. You say &#x201Dannel” several times in the text.

As you can see we have differend icons all around the layer pannel, we won’t be handeling everything of that pannel but i will try to teach you the most important parts.
*As you can see, we have different icons all around the layer panel. We won’t be using everything in that panel, but I will try to teach you the most important parts.

Overlay will basicaly merge all color falues, all darkness falues and all light falues in this image with the image underneath.
* Overlay will basically merge all color values, all darkness values and all light values in this image with the image underneath.

Um yeah. Think I’ll stop now before this gets out of hand Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a great tutorial, and I hope to see more in the future
